The E-HEALTH4SENIORS project is a European initiative funded under the Erasmus+ Programme that aims to improve the digital health literacy skills of adults aged 55+, especially those living in rural and remote areas. As healthcare services become increasingly digitalised, many older adults face challenges in accessing online medical services, telemedicine platforms, and digital health information. The project responds to these challenges by supporting seniors in developing the skills and confidence needed to safely and independently use digital healthcare technologies and services in their everyday lives.
At the same time, E-HEALTH4SENIORS supports adult educators and trainers by providing innovative educational tools and methodologies that help them deliver inclusive and age-friendly digital health education. Through accessible learning materials, practical workshops, and training activities, the project promotes active ageing, lifelong learning, social inclusion, and equal access to healthcare services across Europe.
The project focuses on two main target groups:
- Adults aged 55+, particularly seniors living in rural or remote areas who may face digital, social, educational, or geographical barriers in accessing healthcare services and digital technologies.
- Adult educators and trainers who work with older learners and wish to strengthen their competences in digital health education and inclusive teaching practices.
By supporting both seniors and educators, the project creates a stronger learning ecosystem that promotes confidence, independence, and wellbeing among older citizens.
Through a collaborative and learner-centred approach, the partners work together to develop accessible educational resources, organise practical learning activities, and strengthen the capacities of both seniors and adult educators. The project activities are designed to complement one another, ensuring a gradual process of development, testing, training, and dissemination that maximises the project’s impact and long-term sustainability.
A1 – Project Management
This activity ensures the effective coordination and implementation of the project through regular communication, meetings, reporting, and quality assurance procedures. It also supports sustainability planning and environmentally friendly practices to maximise the project’s long-term impact.
A2 – Development of the eHealth Literacy Toolkit
Within this activity, the partners developed the project’s core educational resource: the eHealth Literacy Toolkit. The Toolkit includes accessible and easy-to-use learning modules for seniors covering topics such as telemedicine, digital health applications, personal health data management, assistive technologies, and online safety. In parallel, educational materials, lesson plans, and methodological guidance were created for adult educators to support the delivery of digital health training in inclusive and age-friendly learning environments.
A3 – Community Workshops
The community workshops serve as a pilot-testing phase for the Toolkit. Workshops are organised with seniors and adult educators in each partner country to evaluate the usability, relevance, accessibility, and effectiveness of the educational materials. Participants provide direct feedback based on their experiences and learning needs, allowing the partnership to improve and finalise the Toolkit before its wider implementation.
A4 – Training Activities on eHealth
This activity focuses on the practical implementation of the Toolkit through national training sessions and Train-the-Trainer activities. Adult educators receive specialised guidance on how to use the Toolkit and support older learners in developing digital health skills. Afterwards, educators work directly with seniors through hands-on training sessions that promote confidence in using telemedicine platforms, online health services, digital applications, and assistive technologies. The activity concludes with the development of a post-training report summarising outcomes, feedback, and lessons learned.
A5 – Communication & Exploitation Activities
This activity focuses on promoting and disseminating the project results through the project website, social media, newsletters, brochures, and awareness campaigns. Partners also organise national events to engage seniors, educators, and local stakeholders, ensuring the long-term visibility and sustainability of the project outcomes.
